The year was certainly a successful one for the Nintendo Wii with many forming lines for consoles. Some didn’t even want to wait in 2007, and ended up gladly paying more than the official list price on eBay. And there were others who already have a Nintendo Wii console, but couldn’t get hold of their favorite games.
It still understates how truly special Super Mario Galaxy is. From its dramatically cinematic opening sequences to its epic final moments, Galaxy absolutely shines. You’ve read it all before; immaculate controls, masterful level design, gorgeous visuals, nostalgic quirks-a-plenty and an incredibly enjoyable overall experience. Super Mario Galaxy sets the bar for creativity and excellence in game design not only for Wii software, but for the industry as a whole, and proves Wii is more than just a mini-game spawning novelty act.
Anyway, the other games that made the list were.
2. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
3. Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure
4. Super Paper Mario
5. Geometry Wars: Galaxies
6.Trauma Center: New Blood
7. Mario Strikers Charged
8. WarioWare: Smooth Moves
9. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
10. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Of course, I didn’t doubt the success of Super Mario Galaxy and I’m sure Nintendo will continue to impress with new and more stunning games next year as well. In fact, 2008 will probably represent an even more successful year for Nintendo if they can finally produce enough Wii consoles. Meanwhile, if you think there are other games which should have been included then leave a comment.
A few days ago we wrote about Nintendo’s gift certificates available at Gamestop on 21 December. For anyone buying a certificate for $250, delivery of a Nintendo Wii after one month was apparently guaranteed.
So, 21 December has since come and gone, and accounts of what the scene was like at the shop are now trickling out. From early morning, a crowd of people had not surprisingly formed a large queue outside.
According to WIRED one of the Gamestop stores didn’t offer the voucher in its limited-edition DVD case.
we’ve already received a tip from a reader that his GameStop store, in Wilson, North Carolina, didn’t know anything about a limited-edition DVD case, and all he walked away with was a cash register receipt.
Still there is not much information about the event. Buying a Wii certificate is just a small part of a job and don’t forget to let me know when you will get your Nintendo Wii consoles after a month.
With the Nintendo Wii one of the most sought after presents this holiday season, it’s no wonder that GIZMODO reports that Nintendo manufactures 1.8 million Wii consoles a month. But wait! That’s not 1.8 million for North America, but 1.8 million for the whole world!
No wonder that many people continue to dream about just one Nintendo Wii console. I can’t remember a single item being in such short supply for two holiday seasons in a row. perhaps Nintendo doubted the popularity of its own product?
With Wii shortages frustrating many potential buyers, Nintendo has some good news. On Friday 21 December, if you go to any GameStop shop and buy a Nintendo Wii certificate then you are guaranteed delivery of a console.
The bad news, however, is that you will have to wait a month before you can get your hands on your Nintendo Wii. So, for $250 you have to wait a month, but on the other hand, at least they’re trying. The certificate will be supplied in a custom-designed DVD case featuring a picture of Mario and the Nintendo Wii on the cover.
So let me get this straight, you give GameStop your $250 and they get to sit on it for a full month, earning interest, and in return you get an empty DVD case and eventually a Wii? The least they could have done is thrown in a T-Shirt that read: “My Parents Waited Too Long to Shop for Me So All I Got for Christmas was this Shirt and a Lot of Empty Promises. See you in Therapy in Five Years.”
TheLedger reports the same. Anyway, for many Nintendo Wii fans, their dream is just one day away so they had better get there early tomorrow because it’s likely there will be a huge line.
