The competition between Windows and Linux continues, but Microsoft still maintains a commanding lead over its open-source rival. That’s not necessarily because Linux doesn’t offer enough features, especially when it comes to security, but more that not only is Windows more user-friendly and usually comes pre-installed on most PCs.
But, one thing in Linux’s favor is that asan open source product developers can make t available for a variety of platforms, and Homebrew has now brought the OS to the Nintendo Wii. Now, QJ.NET reports that the port was developed by Homebrew’s team.
This runs in a unmodified Nintendo Wii console with the help of the Twilight hack v0.1-alpha2 loader. Before doing anything, be sure that you have the following in your possession:
* A Nintendo Wii
* A SD card
* A SD card adapter for the Nintendo GameCube
* (optional, recommended) a USB Gecko adapter
So if you meet the above mentioned requirements then just download the file open the Readme.txt file and follow the instructions.
However it seems fun that you can run a Linux on your Nintendo Wii but I don’t see the purpose of it. I mean, why would anyone not load Super Mario Brawl or Starwars and run Linux instead? That’s not what they bought the console for, right?
Everyone knows that the Nintendo Wii. market is much larger than its major competitors so it’s very logical that game companies having already found success on other systems are looking to develop for the Wii.
Valve is better known for its Half-Life series, Counter-Strike and the recently released Portal which immediately grabbed everyone’s attention due to its innovative gameplay. Now Valve is looking to enter the Nintendo Wii. market.
Chatting to videogaming247.com, Lombardi revealed that Valve would be more likely to develop for the Wii than either of its more powerful rivals, thanks to the fact that “it’s growing, there’s already a huge user-base, and it’s fun.” What’s more, Lombardi reckons that getting Source (Valve’s proprietary 3D game engine) running on the Wii would be realistic: “Source is really scaleable. We can do that.”
SEGA Superstars was released a few months ago for the Nintendo Wii and supported Mii characters. It was obviously a less than serious attempt at a proper tennis game so for those of you wanting something more realistic, you’ll be more than happy to discover that 2K is developing Top Spin 3 for the Nintendo Wii.
This game has already been released for other major consoles as well as the PC and has proven very successful thanks to its realism. You’ll meet real stars like Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer, and gameplay is another reason you’ll play Top Spin 3 for hours. There’s no word yet if or how the game will support sensitive controllers, but it’s really hard to imagine a tennis game on the Nintendo Wii without that essential support. Hoping that 2K thinks so too.
So if you are serious about playing a serious tennis simulation, then Top Spin is definitely the game to go for rather than SEGA Superstars. Nintendo Wii Fanboy reports that there might be another reason as well.
If Top Spin offers online play, that in itself might also be a draw for 2K’s tennis over Sega’s game, which lacks that vital feature.
Info on release date hasn’t been announced yet but I guess it’ll be out in Spring.
EA develops many games for many platforms, but the most famous of all has always been The Sims series, one of the highest-selling games in the world. Now, the good news is that EA is going to expand the franchise for Wii.
According to WiiLoaded EA is already thinking about creating next-generation Sims as well.
EA also stated plans to develop the “next generation” version of The Sims also within the next three years. After the most recent Sim’s game, MySims, has managed to sell an impressive 3 million units so far on the Wii and the DS, developers have decided to create another two to join the new series:
* MySims Kingdom (Q4 2008)
* MySims Party (Q1 2009)
The Sims label president, Nancy Smith, informed us of these two titles today and said that both will be released on Wii and DS. She also stated that their would be a PC version aswell.
The Sims series is so popular due to the games’ similarity to real life where players can do whatever they want, find a job, build a house, decorate it, invite guests, get married and even have children. Another factor in its favor is EA’s strategy to diversify the series by additions such as Sims Party or Sims Vacation.
The video below will entertain you till the next Sims release.
