Being able to prediction the future is great, especially when it does actually come true. In the world of games consoles, it’s one reason why Michael Patcher is well-known for his predictions on the Nintendo Wii.
For example, in a recent interview with GAMASUTRA Patcher said that it would be wise decision if Nintendo started to sell Wiis without the sport package included. That would mean the price would drop to $199.
I think that if Nintendo were to do so and cut the price to $199, it would still sell a piece of Nintendo software to 80% of new Wii purchasers, and would end up effectively lowering revenues per console by only around $10. At that price point, the Wii should be strong again in 2009.
If Nintendo were to do this then the only reason people would buy a PS3 or Xbox360 would be for the graphics, but considering that in late 2009 a Wii-HD edition might debut, the situation would not look very promising at all for Sony or Microsoft in the gaming market.
Millions of Nintendo Wii games consoles have been sold, but many still remain skeptical about the quality of games available for the system simply because offerings from Sony and Microsoft are better.
However, innovative gameplay thanks to motion-sensitive controllers are slowly allowing the Nintendo Wii to stand out, and now it would seem, even graphics are becoming impressive. The upcoming Star Wars: Force Unleashed is just one anticipated game that sets new standards for the Nintendo Wii.
Wii Center reports that Lucas Arts is very proud of the graphics in the game and even predicts a day when the PS3 and Xbox 360 are so unpopular that they can be bought for $100.
Not only are Krome Sudios promising that the Wii version will look awesome despite its slightly less impressive graphic capability (but what else would you expect a developer to say?), they are also promising five extra levels.
I hope Star Wars: Force Unleashed would be a nice example for other companies and soon we will see many good-looking games releasing after each other. I guess Microsoft and Sony are busy and trying to find ways to save their consoles. I’ll not be surprised if some day I’ll see PS3 for $100.
And the game looks good both graphically and in terms of payer immersion. Below is the Star Wars: Force Unleashed trailer Nintendo Wii edition.
Leading the console pack in the past were the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox360 and developers for both were constantly working on making their games more impressive in terms of graphics. In comparison, the Nintendo Wii didn’t provide gamers with graphics on the same level, but it did offer something arguably more impressive — a different way to interact with games thanks to the innovative Wii controller.
Moreover, even two years later, new and exciting ways to play games on the Nintendo Wii are being announced and developed. ACTIONTRIP took an interview from PhD Graduate Student in Human-Computer Interaction, Johnny Chung Lee, in which he speaks about the still untapped potential of these innovative controllers. he concludes that graphics-oriented games are becoming tiring and not what gamers want.
I think the pixel-pushing race between Microsoft and Sony is becoming less and less effective. The gaming experience will only be marginally better even if the graphics are 100 times more powerful. I personally feel the future of gaming will be in new forms of interaction and immersion. That’s where the bottle neck is. The successful products will be the ones that provide something exciting and new rather than a slightly better version of what was done before.

It seems that Nintendo is everywhere these days. After the Nintendo Wii quickly conquered the game world, owners then found out that playing games on the console can replace regular exercise, and now even the police are interested. Well, when it comes to stolen Wiis that is.
Police in West Yorkshire, England, think that the Mii characters found on a stolen Wii console might help them to identify the real owners. They came to this conclusion when they arrested a 32 year-old man who has stolen a Nintendo Wii. They discovered the ID number (7901 7431 3732 8898) of the console and the Mii names created by the real owner. Considering that people usually give their Mii characters their own name or make them resemble themselves, this seems quite logical.
According to GAMERUSH NETWORK Police believe that probably the console was stolen just after the Christmas as it looks new.
“Nintendo Wii looks new and is thought to have been stolen before January 1. It may have been a Christmas present. If anyone has devised these characters listed and the Wii has gone missing, then please contact us urgently” told Detective Con Neil Johnson of the Kirklees CID intelligence unit.
